Policy Brief: Towards a Feminist Just Energy Transition in Asia

This policy brief has been prepared for the Asia Feminist Coalition. It unpacks the pathways towards a feminist just energy transition in Asia. It highlights why the current energy systems need to be challenged, what are some of the core principle of a feminist transition in Asia. It looks at some of the global macroeconomic barriers and presents a set of recommendations for the consideration of decision-makers in the energy ecosystem.

Policy Brief: Feminist Just Energy Transition in Asia

This policy brief highlights how energy transitions across Asia are deeply gendered, with women—particularly in rural, Indigenous, and low-income communities—bearing the greatest burdens of energy poverty, care work, and environmental harm. Guided by principles of energy democracy, labour and care justice, and rights-based ecological resilience, the brief examines progress and challenges in Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and the Philippines, revealing how fossil fuel dependence, elite control, and gender-blind policies continue to undermine just transition efforts. At the same time, feminist movements are advancing solutions. From women-led solar microgrids to calls for tariff justice and decentralised renewables, that reimagine energy systems rooted in equity, care, and resilience.

Policy Brief: Catalysing Voices From Asia to Care for ‘CARE’

This publication exposes the stark imbalance of unpaid care work, mostly carried out by women, which sustains economies yet remains invisible and undervalued. Across the region, women spend far more hours on care than men, with participation in the labor force lagging behind global averages. Freely available for advocacy, education, and research, this publication calls for urgent recognition and redistribution of care to achieve gender justice and economic equity.
